The Vacuum Effect

This installation imagines a microscopic fungus grown larger-than-life, expanding across the gallery walls. The title refers to the phenomenon that ecological vacuums never stay vacant for long, and whatever grows fastest and strongest will fill them. With invasive species, “dangerous” is a matter of perspective, and whatever proliferates eventually seems normal.
