Was, Might Be - 2017
This installation explores the tension between nurturing growth and corporeal decay. The forms of the giant cocoons promise transformative growth and new life, their volume swelling like the pregnant bellies of fertility goddesses. Up close, however, their stretched and rusting skin reveals them to be empty and much more delicate than they appear from a distance, undermining their promise of new life and nurture. They are clustered together as if for protection or drawn in by their each others’ gravitational pull.
